Join Us for Tree Guardian Morning!

Growing Hollingdean Tree Guardians on 4th October 2026 on Davy Drive mulching trees

Sunday, 1st November 2026, at 10am

We meet at Growing Hollingdean shed on the corner of Brentwood Road and Lynchet Close at 10am. We wait 10 minutes before going on to our location within the estate. One of our Growing Hollingdean volunteers will talk through the mornings plan, give out equipment, including some Health & Safety tips.

Let’s come together, make a difference, and help our local environment thrive!

What our volunteers did on 4th October 2026

A glorious sunny October morning in Hollingdean!

Fourteen wonderful volunteers (and one very welcome baby!) met on Davey Drive, where a huge pile of woodchip was waiting to be moved. People of all ages, from their 20s to their 60s, and of all abilities, joined together to fill wheelbarrows and trugs with woodchip and spread it around our fruit trees across our wonderful green spaces.

Microorganisms, bacteria and beneficial fungi!

The woodchip pile was already warm and beginning to break down, alive with microorganisms, bacteria and beneficial fungi. As it decomposes, it helps nourish the soil, retain moisture and protect the roots of our trees. Our new volunteers quickly learned the process, with plenty of fun, chat and smiles along the way. A lovely neighbour even brought us water to keep everyone refreshed in the sunshine. And a big thank you to Jo-Steph for providing the cake, always an important part of any volunteering session!

Volunteers managed to mulch from trees from 014 Cherry Plum through to 070 Walnut tree, see our tree map here. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a lovely morning. Together, we’re nurturing our trees, our green spaces and our community. See you next time!
