Get Growing in Hollingdean, at the Forest Garden
Every 3rd Sunday of the month, from 10am to 12pm. Come along and help us grow food! Our friendly Growing Hollingdean volunteers will meet you at The Shed (on the corner of Brentwood Road and Lynchet Close) at 10am, where you’ll be able to borrow gloves and equipment. Don’t forget to bring a drink, rain or shine.
What volunteers did on 20th September 2026
Sunshine, woodchip and… an old sock!
It was a beautiful September morning in the Orchard, with a really good turnout of volunteers, ten and a half in total! As well as some regulars we welcomed some new folk too! The main jobs were weeding and mulching with a good supply of woodchip. This will help keep the volunteer plants that compete with the trees down, as well as improve water conservation and feed the trees as they break down.

We also took a minutes to assess what’s survived the summer heatwaves and what we need to replant for next year. Which we will be trying to get in at the October session. One of the younger volunteers was enjoying litter picking duties and was particularly excited to find an old sock!
There was a good break for tea and snacks, of course.
