Get Growing in Hollingdean, at the Forest Garden
Every 3rd Sunday of the month, from 10am to 12pm. Come along and help us grow food! Our friendly Growing Hollingdean volunteers will meet you at The Shed (on the corner of Brentwood Road and Lynchet Close) at 10am, where you’ll be able to borrow gloves and equipment. Don’t forget to bring a drink, a hat and wear sun lotion.

Thanks to all, new and old volunteers who pitched in to today’s Forest Gardening. The plan first and foremost was to do some serious watering. Sadly, we were hampered by the water tanks in the garden (IBCs) having been damaged / vandalised. But big thanks to those who valiantly carted heavy watering cans up the hill multiple times, in the heat, from the water supply behind the colourful Growing Hollingdean shed opposite the park! I know one volunteer was very grateful for the extra exercise.
The rest of us weeded (including the hemlock which we bagged and disposed of ) and said hello to various visitors, including a party from Brighton and Hove Allotment Federation (BHAF) who were passing by.
All in all, a friendly, sociable and productive morning, despite discovering the IBC damage and working in the heat. A couple of volunteers had also been to the Tree Guardian session earlier in July, as part of an ongoing project. We are all learning together, to take care of the garden and its plants and each month provides new opportunities to gain some knowledge, be more active or just enjoy the social and mindful ambience outside, surrounded by growing, thriving plants.
