Meet Growing Hollingdean volunteers for a fun morning of light gardening

We meet at Growing Hollingdean shed on the corner of Brentwood Road and Lynchet Close at 10am. We wait 10 minutes before going on to our location within the estate. One of our Growing Hollingdean volunteers will talk through the mornings plan, give out equipment, including some Health & Safety tips. 

It’s free fitness, a chance to make new friends, and we always have a good laugh along the way.

Volunteers at Dryads Community Orchard on 5th July 2026

We freed the fruit trees at Dryads community orchard from bindweed, creating light and air to help the fruit ripen. We kept patches of Hemp Agrimony standing as it’s good for late pollinators. We had seven people including four new volunteers!

Enrica is studying Anthropology at Sussex Uni and interested in different approaches to foster inclusion with a focus on community gardens. She is interested to observe and learn how we organise ourselves. Carlo is from the Queen Mary University of London and is involved in an EU Project involving seven countries. Brighton is the focus for the UK & we are 1 of 4 projects being observed – the other three being Fork & Dig It, Brighton Food Co-op and Brighton Food Bank. Carlo is interested to observe Citizen Involvement in Sustainability Solutions in areas such as Community Food Growing & Governance/Decision making.
