Leigh began creating Horton Road community flower bed in 2022, with the support of Growing Hollingdean volunteers. In 2023, she increased the size and the range of plants and now regularly maintains the bed. She aims to create a beautiful biodiverse space that is easy to look after as well as attracting insects, butterflies and bees. As a Tree Guardian, Leigh is aware the planting benefits local fruit and nut trees too, increasing pollination so they grow better and healthier crops. Many local people comment on how much they love the bed and often stop and chat about plants as they pass by.

Leigh sees it as a call to action and hopes she will inspire others to do the same. She says ‘The flower bed shows that we care about where we live’. Thanks also to Brighton & Hove Council and Hollingdean Residents Association for financial support from the Estate Development Budget (EDB) and a charitable donation towards plants following the Coronation.
