Lets grow together and enjoy the outdoors
Inspired by Incredible Edible Todmorden – Growing Hollingdean is keen to help create spaces in the community for future food security and community benefit. Using permaculture design systems we have helped local people to create green spaces for socialising, food growing and nature. There are several community gardens across Hollingdean, they all welcome volunteers or just a place to sit and enjoy the wild life. For more information contact us here. Use our Google Growing Hollingdean Map to find where the community gardens, orchard, pond, bog, wildflower verges and trees are near you.

Two Trees Community Garden was designed in 2014 to create a space where people in the community come and spend time collectively or alone. The planting around the garden has been done in a way that people are welcome to stroll through and pick fruits and veg as they please…

Three stunning raised beds were built too where we are growing all kinds of herbs and vegetables for the neighbours to look after and use. We are learning so much together!
Horton Road Community Flowerbed

Leigh began creating Horton Road community flower bed in 2022, with the support of Growing Hollingdean volunteers. In 2023, she increased the size and the range of plants and now regularly maintains the bed. She aims to create a beautiful biodiverse space that is easy to look after as well as attracting insects, butterflies and bees. As a Tree Guardian, Leigh is aware the planting benefits local fruit and nut trees too, increasing pollination so they grow better and healthier crops. Many local people comment on how much they love the bed and often stop and chat about plants as they pass by.
Leigh sees it as a call to action and hopes she will inspire others to do the same. She says ‘The flower bed shows that we care about where we live’. Thanks also to Brighton & Hove Council and Hollingdean Residents Association for financial support from the Estate Development Budget (EDB) and a charitable donation towards plants following the Coronation.
