What we have done recently in Hollingdean Community Orchard

In January we had a wonderful sunshiny morning mulching and pruning some of the fruit trees and the edible beds. So good to get stuck in friendly company. And also to stop and have a cuppa, sitting on the bench by the new water capture tanks. The view over the forest garden and the park is amazing.

And in February we were joined during half-term week for 2 days of Forest Gardening by lots of new volunteers, including children. Thanks to everyone who helped to get in some great new planting for the coming season. Two new Cherry Plum trees were planted in front of the Family Hub and the edible hedge in the park had a makeover too. Take a look and see if you can spot the lovely edible plants that are coming up again with the new energy of spring!

Plenty of fun and delicious refreshments were had over two whole days. Stephan from Brighton Permaculture Trust brought the plants as well as his brilliant energy and expertise -so we learnt lots more about forest gardening, too. Now its time to watch the plants wake up and blossom in their different ways as spring unfolds in 2026.
